On Tuesday, November 5, Novak Djokovic declared that he would not be participating in this month’s ATP Finals 2024 in Turin.
The 2023 Olympic men’s singles tennis champion has withdrawn from the end-of-season competition due to injury, and he will not be returning to defend the title.
“It’s quite an honor to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin,” Djokovic wrote on Instagram. I was incredibly excited to be there, but I will not be participating next week because of an ongoing injury.
“I apologize to everyone who was expecting to see me. I hope the event is fantastic for every player. See you shortly!
Djokovic, who was sixth in the 2024 year rankings with 3,910 points, was almost certain to qualify for the finals.
His withdrawal five days prior to the start of the tournament, however, allows the ninth-ranked player in this year’s men’s singles to secure his place in the season-ending competition.
Eight men’s singles players advance to the Turin finals at the ATP Finals, which are held in Italy from November 10–17.
Djokovic won a courageous gold medal in the men’s singles tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, despite having an injury-plagued year.
