Niels Wittich, the F1 Race Director, is stepping down.

Niels Wittich, the FIA Formula 1 Race Director, has resigned from his position effective immediately.

Before assuming the position full-time in 2023, Wittich shared it with Eduardo Freitas in 2022 as dual replacements for Michael Masi.

However, the FIA declared on Tuesday that Wittich had resigned and that Rui Marques will take his place starting with the next Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Having served as a track marshal, scrutineer, national and international steward, deputy race director, and race director in multiple championships, Marques has extensive expertise in motorsport.

He was most recently F2 and F3 Race Director.

In order to seek new opportunities, Niels Wittich resigned his role as F1 Race Director, the governing body confirmed in a statement.

“Niels has shown professionalism and attention in carrying out his many duties as Race Director. We appreciate his dedication and send him our best wishes for the future.
