England’s Caribbean Tour Ends in Rain-Soaked T20 Abandonment

England’s Caribbean white-ball tour came to a disappointing end as the final Twenty20 match was called off after only five overs due to severe rain in St Lucia. When play was stopped, the West Indies were 44 runs undefeated, with Shai Hope scoring 14 off 10 balls and Evin Lewis hitting 29 not out off 20 balls. Even though efforts were made to cover the square and bowlers’ run-ups, the heavy showers made a large portion of the outfield unusable.

The match was called off at 6:10 PM because the rain didn’t seem to be stopping, despite the fact that England won the series 3-1. During the tour, England’s captain, Jos Buttler , had chosen to field first, which had benefited the team. After the captain’s toss, the team had won three ODIs and four T20s in their last seven games.

T20 Series Abandoned due to rain

With this game, England’s limited-overs campaign came to an end under interim coach Marcus Trescothick, who will be replaced by Brendon McCullum. The head coach of England’s Test team, McCullum, will assume coaching responsibilities for all three formats starting in January.

England also announced that white-ball assistants Richard Dawson and Carl Hopkinson would be quitting their positions in addition to the coaching changes. Whether they will be replaced under McCullum’s coaching setup is still up in the air, as there is conjecture about possible structural changes to the team.

Although the weather caused the last Twenty20 match to conclude early, coaching changes and the uncertainty around the future of key staff members overshadowed England’s triumphant tour, which ended in a 3-1 series victory.
