Ipswich Town’s manager Kieran McKenna praised a remarkable evening for his team as they achieved a home win in the Premier League for the first time in over twenty years, and indicated that additional successes are likely for the club facing relegation concerns.
Goals by Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson enabled Ipswich to defeat Chelsea on Monday, marking their first top division victory at Portman Road since they triumphed over Middlesbrough in April 2002.
The win, marking just their third of the season, allowed Ipswich to surpass Leicester City in the rankings. They are still in the bottom three and only one point away from safety, but McKenna is confident that brighter days are coming.
“Midway through the season and we’ve remained competitive in most of our matches.” We just need to implement a few minor enhancements to secure more victories. “We’re a modest team with conviction,” he stated.
“Doing it against Chelsea was amazing.” He added, “For most supporters who have been here for 22 years, every moment is a significant milestone.”
“Securing victory in the home match is yet another unique milestone.” However, I believe the season, the evening match, and the rival enhance the uniqueness of this night, and I hope everyone has a great time.
The 38-year-old, who has guided the team through consecutive promotions, stated that defeating Chelsea capped off a remarkable year.
“Anyone connected to Ipswich can likely savor a glass of bubbly [on Tuesday] night and reflect on some of the matches and moments we’ve experienced over the past few years.” “I don’t wish to dwell on the past too heavily, but I believe six players in today’s starting line-up were part of our League One squad, highlighting the journey this group has experienced.”
The players will go back to training on Wednesday since they face Fulham on Sunday.
“When you experience moments like this, take a brief pause to appreciate them, but then continue to the next one,” the manager stated.
